Hello, God!

Have you thought how spectacularly marvelous a spiritual lift would be given to one who beheld with their eyes God at work here among us. What a faith one could possess if our eyes perceived God’s daily activity, and we could see Him at work. How wonderful to say a respectful “Hello” as God passed us by, getting on with His God-work. Large numbers of people have said, “I’ll believe in God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit when I see Him.” How many people do you know who truly would believe if they were to see Him? Multitudes would not see Him even if they were given eyes to view spiritual beings. Do you know why? Because they are so busy meeting and greeting the world, they do not notice when God does touch them in a heavenly manner.

If ever the average world citizen notices God’s Presence, it usually occurs at Christmas time. Two different worlds come closer as the secular softens its harshness for a time. There is just a bit more openness to heavenly activity. People who live as though there were not a personal God waver slightly in their rejection of Him. Don’t we all revel inside emotionally, responding joyfully because there is a temporary betterment in the world’s attitude? The change we feel is wonderfully encouraging because it is proof of the reality of goodness. People who change for a season could also change with God’s touch forever. Christmas, Christ’s coming, is God’s touch upon the world we inhabit.

Mary’s story

A young Jewish woman felt God’s touch when the angel Gabriel said to her: “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you!” (Luke 1:35) With humility and joy for such a privilege and honor, Mary received the coming of God to overshadow her life. She was ecstatic and jubilant when she learned God was coming to earth as Savior of the world. What a contrast between Mary and most people who do not want God overshadowing their lives. Mary was not average in her day, or any other time in history; she was completely God’s pure and humble servant. He was the fountain of joy for her life. He was “The Bright and Morning Star” foretelling the spiritual dawn of God working among men. Mary thought it was so good she wondered in amazement that gave way to incredible faith in the Lord.

Jesus Christ, God with Us, was born of a virgin two thousand years ago. God became a man and worked God’s miracles, spoke God’s wisdom, and warned of God’s judgment on sin. Jesus explained God’s requirement for any sinner to become a friend of God. He told of heaven’s glory and the bitter anguish of hell. He came to tell the world what God desires to give: life for eternity that is good and glorious.

If you want a touch of God’s goodness in your world, do as Jesus instructed Nicodemus in John, chapter 3, and you, too, will be overshadowed by the Most High God.

Have a blessed Christmas, FJ
